The "470" Railroad Club was established in 1954 to commemorate the last run of a steam locomotive, No. 470, in passenger service on the Maine Central Railroad. Based in the Portland Maine area, it is incorporated in the State of Maine as a not-for-profit historical and educational association, and is certified as such by the United States Internal Revenue Service.
The "470" Railroad Club owns and maintains a collection of historic locomotives and cars which are displayed at the Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, New Hampshire. The club has an extensive collection of photo negatives and color transparencies covering Northern New England railroads, past and present.

March 2008: We are currently temporarily unable to fill orders for Prints from our Negative Collection. Please watch this space for an announcement when we are able to resume taking orders. In the meantime, lists of negatives in the collection are still available as described below. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we hope to be able soon to again offer these fine prints for sale.
The 470 Railroad Club has a collection of over 10,000 negatives of railroad subjects. They are primarily pictures of New England States railroads, and a small number from other parts of the U.S. and Canada. The time frame covered by the collection ranges from the 1890s right through the 1960s with a few in the 70s and 80s. All the pictures have been listed in a computer database, with a description identifying the subject and the date and location of the photographs where it is known.
The collection has been divided into
four
basic categories: Steam Locomotives, Diesel Locomotives, Structures and
Equipment. Structures includes stations, bridges, towers, etc. while
Equipment refers
to passenger and freight cars and work equipment. Within these categories,
the negatives have been listed by railroad. See following inventory of
lists.
If you would be interested in purchasing prints of any of these negatives,
you may request a detailed printout from our database of the negatives
available for the specific railroads and categories, for example, Bangor
and Aroostook
Railroad Steam Locomotives. The printout will list the negatives available,
with all the information we know about them, and will show the negative
number we have assigned to each one. You may then request one of more
prints by
negative number.
To cover postage and printing please remit:
- Railroads with 300 or more negatives -$2.00 per railroad negative list.
- Railroads with under 300 negatives, you may combine up to 20 railroad negative lists for $2.00
If you desire a complete inventory of all railroad negative lists, please remit $15.00.
- Black and white prints of negatives in the collection will be available as follows:
5 x 7- $6.00 each; 8 x 10- $13.00 each; plus postage and handling of $3.00 per order.

UPCOMING TRIP!! SAVE THE DATE
We are planning a special rail excursion trip, in conjunction with MRG, Inc. (Maine Rail Group), on the Maine Eastern Railroad and the former Maine Central "Lower Road". This trip is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2008. Our train will leave Rockland at 7:30 A.M. and proceed to Brunswick, stopping to pick up passengers at Wiscasset at 8:40 A.M. and at Bath at 9:10 A.M. Parking at Bath is extremely limited. We will leave Brunswick, from the Cedar Street stop normally used by the Maine Eastern Railroad's tourist trains, at 10:00 A.M. and journey up the "Lower Road" for a true rare-mileage trip to Augusta, going as far as the track is deemed to be in safe condition. We will then return to Hallowell for a stop of approximately two hours. There passengers may choose to attend the MRG's Annual meeting or to eat lunch in one of Hallowell's several restaurants. Departure from Hallowell is planned to be at 3:30 P.M., when we will return to Brunswick and Rockland. Arrival at Brunswick is planned for 6:15 P.M. and Rockland at 8:30 P.M., but of course these times are not guaranteed. Fare is $50.00 round trip. Passengers may board the train in Wiscasset, Bath or Brunswick instead of Rockland, but there will not be any reduction in the fare for doing so. Box lunches on the train will be available as an option by advance order at $12.00 per person. Otherwise, you may bring a bag lunch, or there will be plenty of opportunity for lunch during the stop at Hallowell. Flyers will be included with the March issue of the 470 Newsletter. However, space will be EXTREMELY limited. If you wish, you may send in an order in advance, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope and a check for $50 (or $62.00 if you want to order a box lunch) for each ticket desired, made out to "470 Railroad Club". Send it to The 470 Railroad Club Trip Committee, 37 Longwood Drive, Portland ME 04102. If you can, indicate a phone number and/or email address in case we need to reach you with any last minute information. If you wish to receive a flyer in the mail, please send email to info@470rrclub.org or to jlbachelder@verizon.net. However, we do not advise waiting very long before getting your order in, as capacity of the train will be limited and we expect tickets to be in high demand!
Our May membership meeting will be held at the Prides Corner Congregational Church located at 235 Pride Street, Westbrook ME on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 7:30 P.M.
