Has anyone here in the club now, ever taken the fall folliage excursions to Gorham,NH and Island Pont Vermont? I have a number of times starting in 1976,over the former grandtrunk line and Canadian national. I went on both trips to Gorham on saturday and then on to Island Pont Vermont on Sunday,and of all the rail trips I have been on,those were the best! my mother,aunt,sister and grand mother went every year until it stopped. the trains that were used were VIA/Canadian National railroad coaches and Grand Trunk/Central Vermont engines,the gorham train had two engines and 5 coaches and the island pond used 12 coaches 2 engines and a baggage car for use as a snack and grill bar. these trips should never have stopped,but I was told it became to expensive to use VIA rail and insurance for their trips to bring them down from Canada.why not do another trip agin to island pond stopping in Stark NH,to late now for the folliage now but how about a snow train? I have been on the snow train trips to bellows falls and white river jct with MBRE and mystic valley railway society finding a train to do a trip wouldnt be to hard either Amtrak charter or Maine Eastern Railroad,they said the are avaiable to go anywhere, my first trips on passenger trains were with the 470 railroad club,and I thank you and very happy to now be a member!
